The doll museum, which has been in Bellevue for 19 years, will close next year because of finances.

I do hope to make a trip in February, I hope to actually see a real Izannah Walker doll. Would be a dream and I can mark this off of my 'bucket list'.

Hello everyone, here is a pic of Patty's doll, I still think her forhead should be a bit different and she needs smaller eyes,and such, but then , so many times, she was sitting on a chair and i'd look at her, and she would look so precious. In making this doll, i went through alot of emotional ups and downs. I wanted to change her, but i hope Patty Loves her just the way she is.

Just a short note to remind myself what i am doing hehe... actually i have 7 dolls 'started' 2 almost finished. Hello all, sorry for being a lame-o blogger as of late. Here are some pictures of Miss Patty's Izannah, I think she will be beautiful, at least i am hoping so! Her eyes are penciled in a bit larger than they will be, but you get the idea. She is a 28 inch big girl! Here, she doesnt have her stockinette (second skin) or her ears on yet. She is in the very rough stage where she still has sanding and filling in of the divots too do yet.

I am working on a new Izannah Walker style doll for Miss Patty, at a stand still right now...need to make a run to the store for more paper clay, then i will post pics in the next few days. I sure hope everyone is doing well and in creative moods! Fall is here, that always gets me into a creative mood!!!! Its my favorite time of year! Here are some pics of a cute dress i bought on a yard sale, please let me know what ya think. Its a two peice dress, with a net style top over a camisole under dress. Not really sure what era, was thinking victorian but probably more 20-30's ish...?

I try to match a doll with an older piece of jewelry, with limited funds it hard to get the really old stuff, but this is what i chose for this big Izzy doll. Just a simple old locket,on a string. The Best news I have heard all year....

Hello, sorry i havent been around to post the most exciting
news all year!!!!!!! My husband is now cancer free after going
through 7 weeks of chemo, and 35 treatments of radiation, it
was a hard haul, but he got 'er done! and is now working on a
healthier diet and exercise regimen, oh and from what he says ,
" a completely new view on life"!!!!! Sometime next week I will
be back to making dolls, YES!!!!!!!!

This is her dress before cuffs are added to her sleeves, now to work on her accessories! On her 'second skin' it looks as though she has a line across her chest, but for some reason its how the dye set on the fabric.

Here is my recent doll, working on her ears, they're pinned, thought i'd give the pins a chance, so far so good! She gets a few more coats of gesso and then her features will come alive!! How do you like the red fabric? I was going to put her in soft butter yellow, but i do love this red!!!!! Also thinking of the name Mardra, what do you think?

Keith, my hubs, is healing from the chemo and radiation treatments he received at Cancer treatment Centers of America, Yesterday was a hard day, but today was much better! He is still using his feeding tube, and putting on weight. Things are looking up. Found a leak under my kitchen sink, sooo... not sure if it the garbage disposal or the sink/faucet...time to get out the hammer and wrench hehe...wish me luck...i'm going in...

Hello , I hope everyone is staying warm and comfortable, but most importantly, Healthy and Happy! Here is my latest doll, with her second skin, arms and legs. I am slow going with this doll. I've been away from home for a few weeks. I love the way her face has turned out. Was thinking on painting her boots a deep blue, since her dress will be a primitive blue color.

I am making her chemise right now and wanted to put pin tucks on the yoke, i had to take a break, because pin ticks drive me bonkers, for some reason! Ok, break is over, back to pin tucks...?

This poor doll over the past 2 weeks has had so many face lifts!!!!!!! I think, on the top pic, she has too much darn forehead, haha i never though this was possible on an Izannah Walker doll!?? Hmmmm, one of those things that makes me go... HMMMM? Back to the face lift board, or perhaps a new hair do!? I dont know why her cheeks look so light...HMMMM?

Here is a pic of my Izzy...BUT in seeing the pics i need to 'open' up one eye. The right one, and i am not so sure i like the color of the stain!!!!!!!! Artis from the izannah Group, had mentioned a really great point, about making the shoulder plate to low, because then the arms will hang too low, not sure if i have done that here? Life's lessons...as you know i lost my precious little dog saturday, still grieving and asking why. Now, i am truly lost, my husband was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, and to start chemo soon. Why..like life isnt hard enough?...Just wow, i dont even know how to put how i feel into words, just WOW!!!! I am not an overly religious person, but you better believe, i feel to my knees!!!!!!!! I can only imagine what is going through his mind!!!!!!!! To here the big C word come from the doctors mouth......Oh Gosh!!!!!!

I know that most people think that a creature so small cant feel emotions and surely doesnt have a soul, i just dont think this way. My Baby, a min pin, who passed away yesterday, was only 5 years and in good health, she would do things to make me laugh, before i knew i was in a depressed mode, she would do what i call the 'doink doink' and run in the back yard like a bambi and then grab a mouth full of freshly mowed lawn and pull it out just to hear my hub bitch! It would bring tears of laughter to my eyes! She would scare my other dog, when he jumped out of the bath tub, literally lie in waiting to scare him, and you could actually see the laughter on her face of a job well done, craziest thing ...i walked in to my bedroom and hubs and Baby were on the ground crouching, and he says to me "shhh' they were scarying 'Puck' our other dog. i never thought this was possible? I think that animals have souls, and i can only hope that they were out of souls and needed a really precious one, as she was only with us for a short time, but it was a dang happy time. A sweet soul!!!!!!! I will celebrate the happiness she brought into our lives!!!!!!!!!!!!

We made her a tomb stone. She was a huge part of our lives, as she had the heart of a lion!!! I LOVE you Babe, go forward and be Big!

Tonight i was preparing a 'theme' birthday dinner for my 22 year old daughter, on the side patio, and came back into the house to find my oh so precious min pin pup, Baby ( on the left), dead, only the dogs were in the house, were not sure but we think she feel off of the couch, and hit the side of the coffee table, she was so healthy, i am so confused! I am so beside myself right now. Its just too dang sad!!!!!!

Haha never thought i'd make it 100...I guess i'll have to do a doll give away, but for now, here is what i am working on...a doll challenge that Dixie calls "nothing new doll", where as we have to use everything we have on hand, nothing new is allowed! For his batting, i used wool, his body is hemp fabric, and his 'dress' wool fabric, he still needs a long coat. He's a father Christmas Primitive type doll, and will be a Christmas door greeter in a large hemp stocking. Here he is , so far... and my recent Izzy sculpt, she has a long ways to go yet, but a great start.

Hello, Here is my recent doll i am working on. Kinda resembles Edgar...eh? But its not... Guess who? Yep, Wednesday Addams, and after looking at old photos of The addams Family, she wore leotards, I was so obsessed with leaotards in grade school!!!! How about you? Here is my first attempt at leotards, too big obviously, and i hope this material is dye-able. Kinda thinking ...NOT! But i have to try.

Pleats, pin tucks or growth plate?

I am putting pin tucks on the bodice of my doll dress, but had chosen to machine sew them instead of hand stitch them. I also chose to reverse them, not sure what its called, but would think it would be called a growth plate of some sort? Top photo, doesnt she look like a bride from the old pictures? I think so.

Queen Anne Doll Challenge...

Yes, i am starting another doll challenge, a Queen Anne Inspired type doll, should be quit a challenge and oh so different from Izannah Walker dolls. For the eyes on my Queen Anne I used old hat pins w/ black glass, because i didnt have the correct size of bead, It actually worked very well...i think, so far so good! Wish me luck as i am off to paint her!!!!!!! Many Happy Dolling Days to all of you!!!

In the second pic she has her face on, and i still need to do some touch ups here and there, but for the most part...she 'd ready to get a hair do!
Third pic, i am trying to choose the fabric, i have some really great old tapestry fabric but its just too thick for a teeny skirt...No she's not a prom goer from the 50's wearing elbow length evening gloves, but thats what comes to my mind right off! Even this fabric is possibly too bulky, as iy makes her outer bustier top stick out...ah whats a girls to do? HMMM?...
...She changes her skirt!!!!!!!!!! I like this one much better!!!!!!!

Ok, here is what i have been working on, i think i am channeling one of our founding Fathers, its looking like George W... not Bush...Washington...Really looks like him,and to think, I had always though he had somewhat of a Charlie Brown shaped head too, which to me, is an uncapturable shape. Here are the dress colors i chose for this doll. Its an old fabric, but not sure how old? Anyone who knows fabric and how to date it, please let me know. She still has shine, but i havent applied fixative yet, and i am using my old camera.

thought i'd share what i am working on, I worked on it a bit last night, I am thinking i gave her too much cheeks? I like to post pics here to see where the problem areas are on the sculpt. Last week, i had forgotten her ears, but now she has audio!!!? For those of youy who know me, i always have issues with paint large lips, so i try to over compensate and make a whisp of a mouth, well I fixed it...this sweetie has normal lips , now!

Have you ever not felt like sewing a doll dress? This is where i am at, at the moment. I have a good doll, BUT she's still naked after 3 attempts, of using wonderful old fabric, which were all wrong for the doll. This is my goal for the weekend!!!!!! As small as it may seem, it is terrorizing me! UGH!!!!!!!

Hello everyone, I have made a doll from Dixie Redmond's doll class pattern and one from another pattern that i have changed a million times over the years. So for those of you who thought i didnt need to take Dixie's Doll Class, I wanted to show you the difference a great pattern makes! The doll on the left is The Dixie pattern, and the one on the right is a revised Sue Farmer Pattern (which is a great pattern in its own right).They will both be super dolls, and of course neither are near being finished, but the Dixie doll is a better "Izzy" Doll by far. I feel, that through Dixies pattern i have learned a lot, "a really alot" ( : D ) !!!!! I can only imagine what we will learn in the actual class. I am so excited about this fact and wanted to share with other doll makers and doll lovers!!!!!! Thank You Dixie for giving me the chance to test your pattern! This pattern is very simple and so easy to understand.

Hello Fellow doll makers,and Doll Lovers and collectors alike, I have joined The Izannah Doll Workshop being offered By Dixie Redmond, It is an on-line class... I am so beside myself to be taking this class, and actually make a doll so similar to an Original. Dixie is giving the class and has studied the original dolls for years, to prepare this pattern, which she is offering with this informative class, Oh its going to be great!!!!!! If you are like me, You LOVE Izannah Walker dolls, I just have never seen one or felt an original. I am hoping this will bring my dolls closer, in appearance to the original Izannah Walker doll. Hello everyone, here is my latest Izzy. She doesnt have a name, yet, I will leave that up to her new mamma. I really love the way this Izzy is shaping up and coming to life. She's a big girl of 25 inches. Let me know what you think, please keep in mind she is a diamond in the rough, and her paint job is not finished. Here is the colors that I will be working w/ Not sure about the tan color yet,but the top tan strip will be smaller, hopefully, when i am finished... but I am trying to get the Ella dress 'look', and I am not seeing it. I am also seeing that i need to lower her hairline as well. I am working on her second pair of arms, one was too big and the other too small, kinda like Goldilocks...

Sarah didnt feel as strong as the Lye that her 'mam put in soap, but she always accepted it, and took it as a challenge to always stay strong and to never waiver.
Hello and Welcome to my first doll sale on my blog, Please meet Sarah, she is a child doll done in Izannah Walker Style, and she is 13 inches tall. She is a prairie girl at heart! She comes with her very own 7 inch tall prairie doll that her mom pieced together out of discarded cloth. Sarah treasures this doll, and keeps her close always. I have used antique to vintage fabric when ever possible.
Sarah is a clay over cloth, she has a 'second skin' on her torso, and an applied thumb, as Izannah Walker did with her cloth folk art dolls. This dollie has a stockinette and her boots are paint in the same fashion as well. She comes with her bloomers (which are crotchless as was the pantaloons of the era), her bonnet to keep the sun off of the back of her neck while she walk, at times, on the trail. I did slightly dye her muslin body as well. Sarah is a solid long lasting quality folk art heirloom doll, and has been varnished, sealed and signed by me Jackie Plain-n-Simple. Here is my attempt at trying to get the "Izannah Walker doll" stare with smaller eyes. There was a thought that was mentioned about smaller or larger eyes, i definitely opt for the larger eyes. She has a cute little face but, not an IW stare. I think i will name her Izzy tho, she looks very proud, and happy with who she is becoming and she will be dressed in a green medallion cloth.

Here is a doll that i am making as a gift, one problem, i am not happy with the hands, i dislike the lobster claw hands, and will probably re-do the? They dont look like this from the front or the back, only the side, where its kinda import. Ah the dilemma... to re-do or not to re-do? Do you think it ruins the charm of the doll?

Here is a pic of big Izzy with her little friend china head. They are both still neeked and in their doll birthday suits, but not for long. I am not as happy with the way big Izzy turned out but she will look lovely in her pink dress, with any luck. She has a second skin, which was done a bit different this time. I also used a different type of clay, which is more dense, and It seemed like i kept adding , and adding , and adding more clay, with this, she is a bit top heavy. Every Izannah remake is always a challenge for me, well heck, every doll is a challenge for that matter and each one takes on a different personality, too. Itty Bitty Izzy Doll Challenge

Finally, Eh?.......

Here is my Itty Bitty Izzy doll for our Coffee With Tea Doll Challenge on Ebay, which starts today, June 8th. I named my Izannah Walker inspired doll Sue Ellen, she measures 6.5 inches tall. She is made of cloth, paper clay, stuffing, acrylic paint, and varnish. Sue Ellens dress is made of an embroidered fabric in pastel colors, bloomers and an apron. All her clothing are removeable with a slip of a knot. She has applied thumbs and a stockinette. She does have sausage curls and painted on boots. It sure took me long enough but i actually made deadline for our challenge.

When Your Child goes to boot camp....

This past few months have been an emotional rollercoaster, waiting for the inevitable of my oldest daughter, Ms. Nichols, leaves for Coast Gaurd boot camp this weekend and its so hard to explain how one feels about it. I am so very proud of her, and yet i want to go with her to protect her and help her take those first unsteady steps of spreading her wings and growing into a beautifully well adjusted young woman. Well, Hello, Everyone, I wanted to share with you the fabric I chose for my Itty Bitty Izzy doll dress. At first i chose a white cheese cloth type fabric with green specks that was sent to me by a fanatstic doll maker, Shirley Walker, but after working with it and 'TRYING' to make an Izzy dress from it, i changed my mind, I just couldnt do it. So now I chose a vintage grey and maroon striped cotton fabric for Itty, which i named Sue Ellen, i believe that a doll doesnt truly reveal its self until its named, which was told to me by another doll maker named Edyth,well atleast thats what i think Edyth was tring to say. Do you think the colors i have chosen are complimentary? Sue Ellen's arms are not painted yet, only gessoed.Oh yes, I also changed Sue Ellens hair, she now has signature ringlets infront of her applied ears. Her slip doesnt have closers yet so she looks alittle chunky, but she not.

I thought forsure i wasnt going to be able to keep the look of an Izannah Walker doll in such a small scale, but i kept some of the features, and I am so proud of my self, I DID NOT use a pattern. She is 6 inches tall, and here she is, just after putting on her stockinette. Sorry the picture is so dark, i had to darken it up, as to show her features. Doll Challenge, Hmmm, Nope its not a big brawl of dolls, Michele!!!Hehe We, the Coffee With Tea Sisters are all making a doll from our imagination, and childhood memories. Everyone knows about Little Red Ridinghood and her jaunt through the woods to grandmothers house, and how the big bad wolf began blowing down the little stick built house...oh wait...thats the 3 Little piggys... the wicked wolf did something like put Grandma, who wasnt feeling well anyway, in the closet, I imagine, and borrowed Grams glasses and pajamas, and hid in her comfy bed, while waiting for Little Red to show up...and the rest is all up to you to imagine, but this wonderful Doll Challenge will begin on February 24, this Sunday at 7:00 P.M . on Ebay. Little Red Ridinghood Nellie Morgan, sister of Isaac

Her is my finished Izannah Walker inspired Little Red Ridinghood doll named Nellie. I changed her hairline, straightened her pocket and finished her riding cape, and added a simple black closure to it.
Here, you will see her little tin 'basket', that she is taking to grandmothers house. Inside are her church dolls and a special gift for grandma, a tiny handsewn pin cushion.

Nellie's Apron

Hello dollmakers and doll lovers, here is a very simple primitive apron made of old muslin, i put a braid trim on her pockets, I wanted to keep her really simple and lovely. I also noticed that one pocket is a bit lower than the other, after seeing the picure, but decided to leave it that way for a more prim look. What do you think? Since Nellie is on her way to Grandmothers house, she will also be carrying a few wonderful items in her tin 'basket', which are still in the process of being completed. I know i am the slowest dollmaker in history, so please bare with me. For the life of me, i can not find those antique linen napkins...maybe i already used them? I guess i will have to make a trip to the Antique World Mall, so i can finish her chemise, and unders...what a fantastic idea,YIPPY!!!!!! I LOVE that place!
